Seaweed- Which is a source of iodine, prebiotics, and can improve heart health.

Wheatgrass- It’s a good source of Vitamins A, E, C, K, and B6, calcium, selenium, magnesium, and iron. It can help with digestion and boost your immune system.

High antioxidant Fruit-  Which is a good source of vitamin c and antioxidants. Antioxidants are vital to combating the effects of free radicals which are molecules that can cause damage to your cells.

Probiotics- Probiotics help your gut health, enhance nutrient absorption and strengthen your immune system.

Digestive enzymes -This can help with your gut health and reduce bloating.

What are the disadvantages of green powders?

1- The number one disadvantage of green powder is the high cost of the product. Eating wholesome, healthy foods costs a lot more money than eating processed and fast food. While spending your money on fresh produce, and healthy food is worth it, I wouldn’t say it is necessary to spend extra money on green powders. You can get all the benefits that you would get from the powder from fruits, vegetables, and whole food.

2- As I mentioned before, green powders are not as filling as fruits and vegetables because it is usually lower in fiber and it’s a low volume food.

3- Some green powder products contain artificial sweeteners which can cause you to feel bloated and fatigued.

4- The FDA does not have the authority to review dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are marketed, including green powders. Whatever claims you see about green powders being a healthy addition to your diet is unsubstantiated.

5- Another disadvantage is that even though there are studies done on this topic, the studies are funded by supplement companies which creates bias in how the research has been carried out and what conclusions can be made.

How to use green powder?

The powder mixes well with many foods and beverages, making it easy to add to your diet.

You can:

1- Add the powder to water, juices, smoothies, or other beverages you may drink throughout the day.

2- Add it to a soup.

3- Sprinkle it over a salad.

4- Mix it into your favorite dip.

5- Add it to any marinate.

Are Green Powders A Waste Of Money?

While there are many claims that are true regarding green powders, they are NOT a substitute for whole fresh foods.

Eating a diet rich in plant-based whole foods, like fresh and frozen fruits, vegetables; legumes; grains such as oats, rice, barley, millet, and seeds will provide people the nutrients they need from these sources without additional supplements.

Green powders are not a substitute for whole food. You need to make sure that you have at least two or three servings of fruits and vegetables every day for optimal health benefits. However, green powders can be convenient and helpful when it’s difficult to find fresh fruit and veggies.
